BitMinter was a Java bitcoin miner application released on June 26, 2011. Running BitMinter on any computer or computing device capable of running Java allowed anyone to mine for bitcoins. On July 1, 2020, mining on BitMinter halted, and the website was shut down on July 2, 2021. During its operation, BitMinter estimates that roughly 1% of the bitcoins in circulation came from BitMinter.
