Short for multiple instruction, multiple data, MIMD is a technique where more than one CPU (central processing unit) or multiple CPU cores work asynchronously to complete a project. More plainly, two or more processing units work with multiple data sets to complete a task.

An essential form of parallel processing, MIMD architectures are applied in many areas, including CAD (computer-aided design), modeling, and simulations.
