WARP logo

1. Short for Warning, Advice and Reporting Point, WARP is part of the NISCC (National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre) information sharing strategy. WARP helps combat the increasing risk of electronic attack on our information systems.

In February 2007, the NISCC merged with the NSAC (National Security Advice Centre), creating the CPNI (Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure). CPNI provides security advice to businesses in the UK, helping to protect national security. CPNI continued to promote WARP in the UK after 2007.

2. Alternatively called teleport, warp describes instantaneously advancing from one location to another location. For example, in a computer game, a player may warp from one part of the world to another without having to walk.

3. A warp describes a player in a computer game who has a high ping, causing their character to vanish and reappear due to packet loss periodically.

4. Warp can also be short for OS/2 Warp.
