Alternatively called Cmd+Y, Command+Y is a keyboard shortcut most commonly used to redo an action reversed using the undo command. Below are other programs that use this keyboard shortcut and related information.

Note

If the Command+Z shortcut has not been pressed, Command+Y doesn't work as there is nothing to redo.

Tip

On Windows computers, the shortcut for redo is Ctrl+Y.

How to use the Command+Y keyboard shortcut

To use this keyboard shortcut, press and hold either Command key, and while continuing to hold, press Y.

Command+Y in macOS

In Apple's macOS, pressing Command+Y opens the Quick Look tool, which displays information about the currently-selected file or folder.

Command+Y in an Internet browser

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari), pressing Command+Y will redo any previously-undone action.

Command+Y in Excel and other spreadsheet programs

In Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet programs, pressing Command+Y will redo any previously-undone action.

Command+Y in Microsoft PowerPoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, the Command+Y keyboard shortcut will redo any previously-undone action.

In Microsoft Word and other word processor programs, pressing Command+Y will redo any previously-undone action.
