Keyboard mapping
Alternatively known as keyboard key mapping, keyboard mapping describes assigning keyboard keys to specific actions. For example, in a computer game, the W, A, S, and D keys may be mapped to move a character forward, left, backwards, and right in 3-D space, respectively.
Computer games and software that support keyboard mapping also support the ability to adjust which keys perform specific actions in the settings. For example, if you want the arrow keys to control a character, remap the keys in the game's keyboard settings.
Keyboard mapping should not be confused with keyboard shortcuts, which are a combination of keys (e.g., Ctrl+C) used to perform an action. Keyboard mapping is an action for a single key.
