How do I enable, disable, view, or delete Internet cookies?

CookiesThe following document contains information on managing your Internet cookies in all of the major browsers. It should be noted that if a user disables cookies, some web pages will not work properly. To proceed, select your browser from the list below and follow the instructions.

Deleting cookies

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools IE tools in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Move your mouse cursor over Safety, and then click Delete browsing history...
  4. Make sure there is a check in the box next to Cookies.
  5. Click the Delete button.

Deleting cookies in Older Versions of Internet Explorer

  • Users of IE 5.x and 6.x users can delete cookies by clicking View, Internet Options, and the clicking the Delete Cookies button.

Viewing Internet Explorer cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools IE tools in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. In the window that appears, under the General tab click the Settings button.
  5. In the window that appears, under the Temporary Internet Files tab, click View files button.

Viewing cookies on older versions of Internet Explorer

  • IE 5.x and 6.x users running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 can view cookies by opening the C:\Document and Settings\<user>\cookies folder (<user> is your Windows login name).

Enable or disable cookies

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools IE tools in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Under the Privacy tab, locate the Settings section.
  5. Move the slider up or down to adjust your acceptance level for cookies.

Enable or disable cookies in Older Versions of IE

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x users can disable or manage their cookie settings by clicking View menu, then Internet Options, and then selecting the Privacy tab.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x and 4.x users can disable cookies by clicking the View menu, then Internet Options, Advanced, and then selecting or deselecting Never accept cookies or Warn me before accepting cookies.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click chrome settings in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. At the bottom of the new window, click Show advanced settings...
  5. Under the Privacy section, click the Content settings button.
  6. In the Content settings window under Cookies, click the All cookies and site data... button.
  7. Delete cookies individually or click the Remove all button.
  8. Click Done.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click chrome settings in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. At the bottom of the new window, click Show advanced settings...
  5. Under the Privacy section, click the Content settings button.
  6. In the Content settings window under Cookies, select Allow local data to be set (recommended) to enable cookies or Block sites from setting any data to disable them.
  7. Click Done.

FirefoxMozilla Firefox users

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click Menu Firefox menu in the upper right-hand corner and select Options.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Privacy tab at the top.
  4. Under the History section, click remove individual cookies.
  5. Users may remove cookies one at a time or click the Remove All Cookies button.

Disabling or Enabling cookies

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click Menu Firefox menu in the upper right-hand corner and select Options.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Privacy tab at the top.
  4. In the History section, click the down arrow in the box next to Firefox will: and select Use custom settings for history.
  5. Locate the checkbox next to Accept cookies from sites. Check to enable and uncheck to disable cookies.
  6. Click OK.

SafariSafari

View and delete cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Apple Safari.
  2. Click the Action menu Action menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of your browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Preferences.
  4. Click the Privacy tab.
  5. Under Cookies and other website data:, click the Details... button.
  6. Delete cookies individually or click the Remove all button.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Apple Safari.
  2. Click the Action menu Action menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of your browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Preferences.
  4. Click the Privacy tab.
  5. Under the Block cookies: section, select the option that best suits you.

OperaOpera users

View and delete cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Opera.
  2. Click Opera button in the upper left-hand corner of the browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the window that appears, select Privacy and security on the left-hand side of the screen.
  5. Under the Cookies section, click the All cookies and site data... button.
  6. Remove cookies individually or click the Remove all button.

  1. Open Opera.
  2. Click Opera button in the upper left-hand corner of the browser window.
  3. In the dropdown menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the window that appears, select Privacy and security on the left-hand side of the screen.

  6. Close the Settings browser tab.

NetscapeNetscape users

Deleting cookies on your hard drive

  • Netscape 7.x users can manage and delete cookies by clicking the Tools menu and then Cookie Manager.

Disabling and Enabling cookies

  • Netscape 4.x users can disable cookies by clicking the Edit menu, Preferences, Advanced, and then selecting Warn before accepting cookies.
  • Netscape 7.x users can disable cookies by clicking the Tools menu and then opening the Cookie Manager.
