An infotainment system is a media system found in a car, truck, or another personal vehicle. While car stereos on older vehicles may only have a radio, CD (compact disc) player, or 8-track player for listening to music, newer ones often have fully-functioning computer systems. Modern infotainment systems have features like GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation, music apps like Spotify and Pandora, and interfaces like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to use your smartphone hands-free.

On some high-end electric vehicles, infotainment systems have operating systems with tons of custom features. Tesla, for example, has a Linux-based user interface that is frequently updated and changed. Users can utilize the map to navigate to charging stations, control the vehicle's air conditioning, and shift gears on the latest models. It also has its own proprietary app store, allowing you to download media apps and games to be used while charging.
