Printer LCD screen

Also called the printer display or printer Control Panel, the printer screen is an LCD (liquid-crystal display) on the front of some inkjet printers and laser printers. It allows the user to view and customize printer settings without needing printer software or extra buttons, and to view current ink levels in the ink cartridges. The picture shows a user interacting with a printer screen.

How to navigate a printer screen?

Most printer screens are navigated using buttons on or next to them. For example, the printer may have arrow buttons for navigation and an Enter or Select button to choose a screen option. More advanced printers use touch screens, allowing the user to navigate the settings with their finger like a smartphone or tablet.

How to fix a blank or black printer screen

If the printer screen is not showing anything, try the following troubleshooting steps.

  1. Verify the printer connects directly to a wall outlet and is not connected to a surge protector or UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
  2. Ensure the printer is turned on and has power by looking for any light (usually green) indicating it has power.
  3. Turn the printer off, wait a few seconds, and turn the printer back on.
  4. Unplug the printer power cord from the power outlet, wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn the device on again.

If these steps do not help get the printer screen working again, it's likely defective and should be repaired or replaced.
