How do I enable, disable, view, or delete Internet cookies?

The following document contains information on managing your Internet cookies in all of the major browsers. It should be noted that if a user disables cookies, some web pages will not work properly. To proceed, select your browser from the list below and follow the instructions.

Google Chrome

View and delete cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the Chrome settings icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. Scroll down to the Privacy and security section, and click the Site Settings option.
  5. In the Site Settings window, click the Cookies and site data option.
  6. In the Cookies and site data window, click the See all cookies and site data option.
  7. Delete cookies individually or click the Remove All button.
  8. Close the Settings tab in Chrome when done.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the Chrome settings icon icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. Scroll down to the Privacy and security section, and click the Site Settings option.
  5. In the Site Settings window, click the Cookies and site data option.
  6. In the Cookies and site data window, click the toggle switch for the Allow sites to save and read cookie data entry. Cookies are enabled when the toggle switch is blue and disabled when the toggle switch is gray.
  7. Also, click the toggle switch for the Block third-party cookies entry. Third-party cookies are disabled when the toggle switch is blue and enabled when the toggle switch is gray.
  8. Close the Settings tab in Chrome when done.
Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click the menu icon Firefox menu in the upper-right corner and select Options.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Privacy & Security option in the left navigation pane.
  4. In the Cookies and Site Data section, click the Manage Data button.
  5. Delete cookies individually or click the Remove All button.
  6. Click Save Changes and close the Options tab in Firefox when done.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click the menu icon Firefox menu icon in the upper-right corner and select Options.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Privacy & Security option in the left navigation pane.
  4. In the Content Blocking section, click the Custom option.
  5. Check the Cookies box to block/disable cookies, or uncheck the box to allow/enable cookies.
  6. Close the Options tab in Firefox when done.
Microsoft Edge

Delete cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the more icon Microsoft Edge More menu in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the gray navigation pane, click the Privacy & security option.
  5. Under Clear browsing data, click the Choose what to clear button.
  6. Check the box for Cookies and saved website data, if not already checked.
  7. Click the Clear button at the bottom of the Clear browsing data side window.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the more icon Microsoft Edge More menu icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the gray navigation pane, click the Privacy & security option.
  5. In the Browsing data section, click the Cookies drop-down list.
  6. Select Block all cookies to disable cookies or Don't block cookies to enable cookies.

Deleting cookies

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools Internet Explorer Tools in the upper-right corner.
  3. Move your mouse cursor over Safety, and then click Delete browsing history.
  4. Make sure there is a check in the box next to Cookies and website data.
  5. Click the Delete button.

Deleting cookies in Older Versions of Internet Explorer

Users of IE 5.x and 6.x users can delete cookies by clicking View, Internet Options, and then click the Delete Cookies button.

Viewing Internet Explorer cookies stored on your hard drive

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools Internet Explorer Tools icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. In the window that appears, on the General tab, click the Settings button.
  5. In the window that appears, under the Temporary Internet Files tab, click View files button.

Viewing cookies on older versions of Internet Explorer

IE 5.x and 6.x users running Windows XP or Windows 2000 can view cookies by opening the C:\Document and Settings\<user>\cookies folder (<user> is your Windows login name).

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools IE Tools icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. On the Privacy tab, under the Settings section, click the Advanced button.
  5. Select the Block option for First-party Cookies and Third-party Cookies to disable cookies, or select the Accept option to enable cookies. Also, uncheck the box for Always allow session cookies to disable session cookies, or check the box to enable session cookies.
  6. Click OK on each open window to save the settings change.

Disable or enable cookies in Older Versions of IE

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x users can disable or manage their cookie settings by clicking View menu, then Internet Options, and then selecting the Privacy tab.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x and 4.x users can toggle cookies by clicking the View menu, then Internet Options, Advanced. Once you are in this menu, select or deselect Never accept cookies or Warn me before accepting cookies.
Safari

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select Safari from the menu bar.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Preferences.
  4. Click the Privacy tab.
  5. Under Cookies and website data, click the Manage Website Details... button.
  6. Delete cookies individually by selecting them and clicking Remove, or click the Remove all button.

Disable or enable cookies

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select Safari from the menu bar.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Preferences.
  4. Click the Privacy tab.
  5. Click the Remove all cookies checkbox to block cookies.
Opera

  1. Open Opera.
  2. Click Menu button in Opera. in the upper-left corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the window that appears, click Advanced on the left side of the screen, then click Privacy & security.
  5. In the Privacy and security section, click the Site Settings option.
  6. Click the Cookies and site data option.
  7. Click the See all cookies and site data option.
  8. Remove cookies individually or click the Remove All button.
  9. Close the Settings tab in Opera when done.

  1. Open Opera.
  2. Click Menu button in Opera. in the upper-left corner of the browser window.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select Settings.
  4. In the window that appears, click Privacy and security on the left side of the screen.
  5. In the Privacy and security section, click the Site Settings option.
  6. Click the Cookies and site data option.
  7. In the Cookies and site data window, click the toggle switch for the Allow sites to save and read cookie data entry. Cookies are enabled when the toggle switch is blue and disabled when the toggle switch is gray.
  8. Also, click the toggle switch for the Block third-party cookies entry. Third-party cookies are disabled when the toggle switch is blue and enabled when the toggle switch is gray.

Netscape 7.x users can view and delete cookies by clicking the Tools menu and then Cookie Manager.

Disable and enable cookies

  • Netscape 4.x users can disable cookies by clicking the Edit menu, Preferences, Advanced, and then selecting Warn before accepting cookies.
  • Netscape 7.x users can disable cookies by clicking the Tools menu and then opening the Cookie Manager.
