The Microsoft Surface is a tablet computer developed by Microsoft and first released in October 2012. All of the hardware and software that makes up the Surface tablet is Microsoft-made, which is a first by Microsoft. They have traditionally been a company that focused on software, like the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suites.
The Surface tablet is 9 millimeters thick and 1.5 pounds. It uses either an ARM, Intel, or NVIDIA processor (depending on version) and includes either a USB 2.0 port on earlier versions or USB 3.0 on the latest versions. Its unique features include a kickstand for propping it up and a cover that locks in place.
